I CAREFULLY acquainted myself with the materials of the International magazine «Golden Plaza», I read through all the articles printed since 2012 and tried to understand the direction and subject area of the periodical. And I came to conclusion that this magazine is for us, for all readers, and its coverage direction is our life. Yes, just the whole life.
Nowadays, it is of a big rarity to meet an edition which coverage aim is a human's life and its interesting sides. A great interest of mine was attracted by such columns as culture, ethno culture, art. So, I feel a desire to share with you my views on design development (namely, costume design) in the South of Russia — in the Caucasus.
For many years by now designers of clothes have been successfully prepared in Karachay-Cherkessia. Larisa Ataeva is seriously engaged in this. I repeatedly visited her graduates' diploma defenses and shows of designers' collections. Ataeva's graduates with a great success demonstrated their art on big fashion grounds of Russia and abroad.
The costume design in the Caucasus possesses a feature, coherent only to these people. A multi-national mountain colouring is sure to be found in modern fashion items. This concerns everything: colour range, the centuries-old cutting styles, bringing national ornament into a modern costume, usage of local ecological materials.
Since old times the Caucasians have used wool and thick felt for making clothes, headgears,
shoes, toys, adornments and works of decorative and applied arts. Things, people of the Caucasus got used to, today are not only their visiting card but a new word in the European design development.
Lately, the world has faced itself squarely to ecology in dwellings, clothes, eating — in life.Today, the leading fashion houses make many efforts to adopt natural materials, such as, for example, thick felt. This trend has got a name Lifestyle. A Finnish company Noolan (noolan.com) could be confidently referred to the pioneers of this design. Noolan designers' products are made in white-grey and black colours — natural colours of thick felt.
The Northern style is very simple and elegant, this cannot be said about the price... To my mind, prices for Noolan items are outrageously high, but are bought out in all countries of the world with a bang, though.
And I started thinking... Why not give some more attention in Karachay-Cherkessia to the development of eco-ethno-fashion-design, when they are so good at it? Why not build small special boutiques in Sochi, Moscow, and Saint-Petersburg and develop and promote our unique Lifestyle?
