Pyatigorsk State Linguistic University is a large humanitarian, educational, research and innovative center of the North Caucasus and the South of Russia, one of three specialized universities of the country which qualify specialists in foreign languages and cross-cultural communication, widely known in our country and abroad.
PSLU is included in the top ten humanities universities of our country for many indicators. By results of the independent examination of Vladimir Potanin Charity Foundation, PSLU for the 11th time was called one of the best universities in Russia from Kaliningrad to Kamchatka.
PSLU carries out full educational and scientific cooperation with the main strategic partner, leading university in studying languages and cultures – Moscow State Linguistic University, and also with main capital and regional universities, among which are Lomonosov Moscow State University, St. Petersburg State University, Moscow State Institute of International Relations of the MFA of Russia, Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia, and many others.
Dynamic development of international relations and academic cooperation with foreign partners became the integral elements of training of the highly skilled, globally focused specialists in PSLU. This dynamic which is based on forty-year traditions of the international cooperation and the principles of internationalization of the higher school, defines today the main priorities of the management of international relations and educational programs, institutes and the higher schools of the University. International relations of PSLU cover today practically all regions of the world – North and South America, Western and Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and Africa.
All-around cooperation connects PSLU with the international educational funds and the organizations, educational institutions and the language centers of the USA, Great Britain, Germany, Austria, France, Spain, Belgium, Italy, the Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Slovenia, China, Turkey, Israel, Egypt, Sudan, Armenia, Azerbaijan and other countries. There are many opportunities for foreign training for hundreds of students and teachers of the university annually.
Since 2008, our University has given to its graduates the Diploma Supplement of the European sample in English. PSLU is an official member of the International Association of Universities (IAU) operating under the aegis of the United Nations and the International Association of Applied Linguistics, EURHODIP Association, National Communication Association of the USA (NCA), a member of the SCO Consortium of Humanities Universities of Shanghai Organization for Cooperation and the Inter-University Council for Spiritual Education of the Commonwealth of Independent Countries (CIS).
It should be noted that the university is one of the few having its own brand with a slogan “University that Opens and Transforms the World”, registered in the State Register of Trademarks and Service Marks of Federal Service for Intellectual Property.
The University continuously improves the contents and structure of its programs. There are 11 diversified and multilevel educational, scientific, technological institutes and higher schools realizing the main educational programs, each of which has its own history and traditions. In addition, educational programs of secondary professional education function on the basis of the university.
The higher education training is carried out on multi-level basis except for several specific professions. Within the scope of BA (80% of educational programs) and a specialist the university focuses on two types of graduates. The first type are the prime-class linguists and philologists (translators, interpreters, lecturers, experts of Russian as a foreign language, lingvo-criminalists, specialists of Theoretical and Applied Linguistics, philological education, specialists of intercultural communication in International Tourism, Customs and Multilingualism. The graduates of the second type are fluent foreign languages speakers in Government and Public Administration, Management, Human Resources, Information Management, Economics Security, Theology, Oriental Studies, History, International Tourism and Hospitality, General Psychology, Psycho-Pedagogical Education, Psychology of Employment Activity, Social Work, Youth Outreach Psychology, International Relations, Advertising and Public Relations, International Journalism, Conflict Management, World Economics, Taxation, Customs, Leisure and Fitness Tourism and Recreation, International Marketing, IT Security, Applied IT, Literary Work, Socio-Cultural Activity, Innovatics, Intellectual Systems in Humanities, Business IT, Quality Management, and Law.
