Ismail Izhayev witnessed many troubles in his life. Having passed difficult years of war, in 1947, while searching for his family, he arrived in the Talassky region of Kyrghiz SSR where in sovkhoz (soviet farm) “Tabak” (Tobacco) of the Pokrovsk area together with his relatives he experienced, like all the other Karachay families, hunger and poverty. And all of this misfortune occurred after being disabled of the seсond degree in the Great Patriotic War.
Life isn’t easy for Ismail today either: diseases torture him. He is almost incapable of walking by himself. He is hard-of-hearing. But, despite all of this, he is attentive and perceptive, he clearly and accurately answers the questions he is asked.
